Art installation about All Hallows Creative Showcase 2018

A girl sitting on the floor working on a large colorful poster that says 'The Cranes of All Hallows'. The poster features illustrations of cranes with some details. The girl has her head resting on her arms and is surrounded by art supplies and colorful papers.

We staged a very exciting creative showcase executed by the students from Reception to Year 8, an extraordinary installation on school life and cranes, the symbol of all Hallows.  It was comprised of origami Cranes, transparent tape sculptures, 2D paper works, and a looping video piece showcasing the wide-ranging talents of our students, filmed by year 8 student Ava Lettieri.  The result is more akin to a gallery installation than a school project.

As a school we made an attempt to fold a thousand origami cranes as we heard of an ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods. Some stories believe one is granted happiness and eternal good luck, instead of just one wish.

OK, you ask how do we make the transparent tape sculptures? First, you wrap the person or object up with cling film and leave breathing holes. Next, you start from one section and go around and around, taping them. Make sure you have enough layers to create a type of self-sustaining structure. As we need to be careful with plastic waste, I probably wouldn’t do this project unless using paper tape.

Three children in a classroom: one wraps a person in plastic wrap, while another stands next to them, and the third kneels nearby. The classroom has windows, art supplies, and painted backdrops.
