Sacha Guppy

Sacha Guppy is a passionate art educator who is Head of Art at All Hallows School, where she leads a dynamic department that teaches through exhibition-based themes. Her approach invites all year groups to explore, create, and culminate their learning in immersive exhibitions that celebrate student voice and creativity.

Previously, Sacha taught at a comprehensive school in the Midsomer Norton Partnership, Somervale and Norton Hill School, where she worked with the Head of Art to establish an outstanding art department renowned for its creative ambition. She championed pupil development through artist-led workshops and a focus on high-level outcomes, inspiring students and the wider school community.

Among her most ambitious projects is Icons of Peace and Equality, a global collaborative art initiative. Originating as a powerful tonal portrait composed of individually created sections by students, the piece celebrated themes of peace and justice. Partnering with Peace One Day and engaging in a live dialogue with founder Jeremy Gilley, the project culminated in an exhibition at the Black Swan Round Tower Gallery. Sacha then invited schools around the world to create their icons, with the vision of curating a travelling exhibition of global youth voices calling for peace and equality.

With plans to revive and expand Icons of Peace and Equality, Sacha continues to blend creativity, collaboration, and social impact in her teaching, making art a platform for change and connection across cultures.

International Art Collaboration Project

Let’s create Icons of Peace and Equality around the world made by young people.

In a time of widespread unrest, students have created portraits that represent the ethical, the good, the positive, and the unwaveringly tolerant, reminding all who see the works that people can indeed still make a difference. Academically, it is important to demonstrate to students that art does not exist in isolation but draws from all disciplines and subject matter throughout their curriculum.

We are looking for art teachers and Schools around the world to collaborate and to produce more Icons of their choosing. The aim is to showcase all the works online, and the eventual goal is to host exhibitions of the Icons at various venues around the world.

Jilly Hillier, professional adviser for UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award South West, who has supported the work carried out internationally by the students, said: “It’s great when global learning breaks out from geography, history and citizenship as it has the potential to enrich learning on a much bigger scale.”

We had schools in Afghanistan, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, and the U.S.A..

By having students work together to produce each portrait, they have, albeit symbolically, been participating in something positive and progressive, reaffirming the fact that people with a shared view can all be actively involved in positive change.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to help change the world.

Nelson Mandela

Two women stand beside a large mosaic portrait of Nelson Mandela, made up of smaller square tiles, in a brick-walled room. This project was produced collaboratively as part of the Icons of Peace and Equality project by Sacha Guppy.
